Limp Bizkit - The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1)
We all know Limp Bizkit as the rap-rocking sellout juggernaught. A behemoth that simply vanished off the face of the world after its fourth album Results May Very died a horrible death. Did you even know they made it? I think Three Dollar Bill Y'all is an awesome album and I even bought Significant Other, which I did not think was that bad of an album. I have seen These guys twice in concert and stilll think they are very good live. I myself had completey detested what they had become and ignored them for the last few years. I think rap is fine, but I didn't think that they were living up to their potential and using the guise of a rock band to let Fred Durst rap. Wes Borland's leave of absence from the band also made me forget about them. This new album intrigued me though. Wes Borland back, and no publicity. I didn't even know it was out until I saw it at the stores and said: "What the hell? Did Limp Bizkit put out a new album?" I took the chance after hearing one song and decided to see if an old favorite was able to bring itself back from the brink of ruin. I was really surprised by the album when I began to first listen to it. It seemed to have made it's way back to it's roots. As we all know Fred Durst likes to rap, and I do like it when he does it right. Their first album proved that it could be done well because it was more than that. The music was hard and Wes Borland's guitar style kept me listening to it. Durst's words seemed raw and really fit in with the feel of the music. I think they managaed to re accomplish that. It is not 3 dollar bill, but it is heavy the music and the lyrics. The lyrics have a real feel for them. He writes about things that happened recently so you know they didn't just pull this stuff out of a vault in hopes of trying to recash in, although that may still be the case and they have just gotten smarter. I do have a few problems with it thought, I am not just going to sit and glorify the album. I really don't think it has enough energy. It is heavy, but it is not intense enough. I think apart from Track 4: The Key, The album just doesn'tseem completely out there. What I mean is, I don't think that they really let everything go to make the album. All Inhibitions, it seems as though they held back a little. Also, I know that Wes Borland can get out of control with the things he does on guitar, but He did not seem to get very creative at all. He stuck to something that was good, but maybe a little too formulaic. A word which describes almost all thr tracks. All the tracks are very Verse Chorus Verse-ish and have a similar set up. I think if they would have allowed themselves to be more creative istead of trying to make something like they did many years ago, then they would have succeeded inmaking something they had made many years ago. Also, it has a very Rage Against the Machine feel. Where there is music and then loud talking over the music. While Rage is good, and this album is good. They were not the same before and I think that Limp Bizkit does not need to try and reproduice something. It's always been about emotion and putting your heart out there. I think that was the core of the first album and I think that that was the idea of this one, but that it became too contrived. Track(s) of Love: My favorite tracks on the album are three right in the middle. Tracks 3, 4, and 5. The Priest, The Key and The Channel respectively. I think they all transition well and I really like the music. I think The Key, while it probably is a true rap, really captured what they had on their early albums. It was really intense and short and to the point. I think that these three should be listened to as one big song, but if I were going to pic one song I would pick Track 5: The Channel. I really think it is the best song on the album. I really like the music on it and the way it's delivered. Track(s) of Doom: I think the last song, Track 7: The Surrender, is truly a track of doom. Fred Durst as we all know, CANNOT sing. I really think he is just bad at it, and things haven't changed. His inability to sing is part of what made the first album good, because he would have to resort to yelling, which he can do very well. Now it's time for the final marks. On a scale that goes from -5 to 5 I give this album a 1. I do think this may be the start of good music for a long time from these guys. At least, I hope it is. But there are still alot of things that need to be worked out before they are truly awesome. I would suggest this to anyone who liked old LB, good Nu Metal, or whatever the hell it is, or bands like rage and rock bands that are decent. I don't know if the ska kids will dig it, but hey, why not pad that collection a bit and impress (or piss off) your friends.
