Stereo 7 - Cooler Than You
I can't remember when, but I swear I have seen them live. From what I remember they weren't bad, but I wasn't exactly getting crushed by their awesomeness either. I did like their website though, I think I made the ninja fly across the screen about a hundred times, but through my lack of any real searching I could find nothing else about them. I have listened to this album many times and in my attempts I just could simply not get into them. No songs really piqued my interest and a few that did seemed to sound alot like other bands. I think the only thing I can remember is the car crash soundbyte. Normally there are one or two songs that catch my ear when listening the first time and then after repeated listens I develop more of a feel and other songs emerge. This does not seem to be the case with the album. I don't think it is particularly bad, and if you are looking for a filler album to bolster your collection this might make a good fit, but so far it has done nothing for me. It seemed like they did abetter job live. Go out and see them if you are interested. If you like them get the album, but I don't know that I would start with the album first. I also don't like the way they present themselves in their lyrics. I think that they are trying to make light of a situation and being positive about things, but if you have to be positive on every song I don't think that is so good. I will still have to listen to the album again to get my Track(s) down. This may take awhile. Track(s) of Love: This was a hard decision to make for both the tracks of love and doom, but I think I managed to come up with a few things. Track 6: Groupies is one that was catchy. I didn't particularly care for the lyrics, but I thought the song was catchy. Also, Track 12: Go Away caught my eye, mostly because it is short and hatey. Track 1: Metro North also seemed to get better with more listenes, even though I think the first tracks have been not very good lately, I think through listening to it so many times it has become tolerable. I would pick Track 12: Go Away as my one track if I had to, mostly because it swears alot. Track(s) of Doom: After some thought, this became an easy choice. Track 9: Help Me Rhonda. I don't really like the original song much and when it's covered by a band that isn't very good it just sucks totally. Now it's time for the final marks. On a scale that goes from -5 to 5 I give this album a -2. This band seemed unoriginal and uninspired. It was difficult to find songs that I could really get into, but very little of the album pissed me off. I am skeptical of there next outing. It will take some real effort to be able to maintain this dismal sore. I am just not sure if they have it.
