Why I Hate George W. Bush
I obviously have a bias against Bush and before I get into the other reasons I hate him, I thought I should address the core reason I hate him. Back in 2000, during the last election, one of the smaller issues facing the candidates was the issue if pagans should serve in the military. When questioned about it, Bush responded that he didn't believe that Wicca was a real religion and it shouldn't be allowed. Ever since then, I've had no respect for the man. You don't believe in Wicca, that's ok. But to deny someone else their belief is just wrong. Even still, I tried to give the man a chance. And he has continually disappointed me, and in my opinion has spiraled down to complete disgust. But what scares me the most is that this man is the one who is leading the country. 1. Terrorism and Iraq: Guess what? As much as the White House wants you to think there is a link between these too, there isn't. The war in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror. Remember when we were in Afghanistan? The news would report on the capture of terrorists who were hiding out there all the time. Yet, now we're not hearing the same about Iraq. Why? Because the terrorists weren't there. More importantly, I'm sick of the scare tactics that the Bush administration has used on the public. While the terrorist threat is one that should be taken seriously, using it as a boogey man to get the public to do what you want is just wrong. The Bush camp's message seems to be Vote for Bush or the terrorist will come and kill you and everyone you love. I wouldn't be surprised it the terror alert went up on Nov. 2. 2. The Draft. A lot of has been made about this issue lately. Yes, I know Bush said he wouldn't re-instate the draft, but he also said that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Right now, he has to worry about re-election and any candidate who remotely hinted at a draft would not get elected (or in his case, re-elected). But after Nov 2, he no longer has to worry about re-election…the American people will have given him a free pass. And it's no secret that the military is stretched on manpower. So, my question is, if Bush is re-elected, what's to stop him from re-instating it? Now, I know a lot has been made about Bill 402 and it being a draft bill. And it got defeated, right? Well, guess what…it wasn't a draft bill, at least not a military one. What the bill called for was that every American born after a certain date was to give two years of service to the government. This could be in the military, but could also be in other fields such as education, law enforcement, environmental work, etc. In return they would receive pay, college tuition, and tax benefits. The bill was introduced by a Democrat. Various people started painting it as draft bill, first liberals trying to scare people into thinking it was a draft bill. The conservatives, after the bill was defeated as a way of saying "See, the draft got defeated." And just on a personal note, many of my friends are of draftable age including Hoss and the Baron. 3. Gay Marriage. Touchy issue I know. All I can say is if you are for it, then Bush is not your man. 4. Economy. Our economy sucks. To be fair, this isn't something that's in the president's control. Things like September 11 and the death of the dot.com are things he had no control over. Still, going to war didn't help. More importantly, in terms of government finances, once again, Bush has been disastrous. When he came into office, there was surplus in government funds. He has rapidly driven us back into a deficit that will be hard, if not impossible to recover from given the current economy. And instead of trying to combat it by raising taxes, he's giving cuts, but only to the rich. 5. Education. No Child Left Behind is some of the worst legislation he got passed. Not that the idea of holding schools and teachers responsible isn't good, but it costs money to get schools up to speed. He grossly under funded this bill. Besides, this may be for another rant, by why does no one ever want to hold the parents responsible? Or better yet, maybe we should start making kids responsible. 6. Environment. The man is raping the planet. Seriously, he's got poor mother earth pinned down and is ravaging her relentlessly. And he's not going to let go until he gets every last natural resource out of her, leaving her a shattered barren wasteland. Is that what you want your kids growing up in? In my last rant I encouraged you to go out and vote. Now I'm encouraging you to go out and vote for John Kerry. Not because I think Kerry is some awesome candidate, but because Bush is so awful that I am truly afraid of another four years of him leading the nation. So, use your voice on Election Day and vote to get Bush out of office.
